Abstract

MARTEN MAREN, Daisy  and  RAMIREZ ARIAS, María Caridad. Ecoimmunonutrition in the treatment of patients with inflammatory bowel diseases. MEDISAN [online]. 2013, vol.17, n.2, pp.384-397. ISSN 1029-3019.

Inflammatory bowel disease, with a clear predominance in most industrialized countries, involves a group of conditions with similar clinical patterns, histopathology, complications, and therapeutic responses (including conventional diet therapy) and progression to malnutrition caused by malabsorption. In treating patients with these conditions the ecoimmunonutrition is effective, but it is little known in medical practice and has led to this updated literature survey on the role of diets and ecoimmunoorgan-specific functional foods, as well as their actions in tissues, clinical manifestations and nutritional development. Encouraging reports regarding care of these people are provided, in which the functional foods are very important and dietary restrictions of certain foods or use of others modify the clinical course.

Keywords : inflammatory bowel disease; ecoimmunonutrition; econutrition; intestinal mucosa regeneration; intestinal immunity; functional foods.
