Abstract

VERDECIA ROSES, Miguel Ernesto; VERDECIA ROSES, Yanette  and  RODRIGUEZ YERO, Daymarelis. Early tracheotomy in ventilated patients. MEDISAN [online]. 2014, vol.18, n.5, pp.637-643. ISSN 1029-3019.

An analytic investigation of cases and controls was carried out in "Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso" Teaching General Hospital in Santiago de Cuba, from the second semester of 2009 to the first semester of 2010, aimed at determining the potential advantages of the early tracheotomy in mechanically ventilated patients. The study group was formed by 23 affected patients and the control group by 39. To facilitate the comparison between both groups percentages, proportions and morbidity rates were used. It was obtained that with the early tracheotomy, complications considerably decreased in the cases; nevertheless, there is neither enough consent yet regarding the moment to apply the technique, nor it is early carried out in most of the ventilated patients

Keywords : tracheotomy; mechanical ventilation; secondary health care.
