Abstract

SANCHEZ HERNANDEZ, Ernesto; MEDINA PAVON, Marianela  and  GONZALEZ DE LA PAZ, José Ernesto. Association between risk conditions and hypertension in residents of the Angolan municipality of Viana. MEDISAN [online]. 2014, vol.18, n.6, pp.748-754. ISSN 1029-3019.

An analytic study of cases and controls was carried out in residents of Caop neighborhood in Viana municipality, Luanda (Angola) from September to November, 2012, with the objective of determining the association between the hypertension and some psychosocial risk factors, under the hypothesis that the referred risky situations had higher association with the disease among hypertensive individuals that among non-hypertensive persons. In the analysis of the series results, it was obtained that overweight and obesity, sedentarism and stress showed an increase in the risk of suffering this disorder, with variable probabilities, which allowed to confirm the stated supposition. On the other hand, other conditions, as the ingestion of alcohol and the salt consumption, did not constitute a risky condition for this populational group, so that they lacked influence on the development of the disease

Keywords : hypertension; sedentarism; obesity; stress; alcohol consumption; risk factor.
