Abstract

A descriptive and cross sectional study of 58 patients (up to 14 years old) with burns, admitted in the Caumatology Service from "Dr. Juan of the Cruz Martínez Maceira" Children Northern Hospital in Santiago de Cuba was carried out from January, 2009 to December, 2010, in order to determine the factors mostly associated with the origin of the lesions. In the series the male sex (69.0%) and the boiling liquids as causal agent (69.0%) prevailed; while the rural origin (79.3%), the low perception of risk of accidents (87.9%) and the bad living conditions (65.5%), were the most frequent socioeconomic factors in the family environment
