Abstract

A descriptive and cross sectional study of 50 families, belonging to 6 areas from Santiago de Cuba municipality, assisted in genetics services was carried out during the five year period 2007-2011, aimed at proposing a strategy to reach the excellence in these services. Improvement of the indicators for covering the Genetics Program was achieved. Opinions on the ethical aspects of this advice were in correspondence with the international regulatory rules. Deficiencies existed in the performance of the genetic advisers from assistance and investigative nature. The proposed strategies allowed to increase effectiveness of the genetic advice, the quality in services and the competence and suitability of the staff
