ADAMES ISALGUE, Sulien; GONZALEZ CASTILLA, Roberto  y  LUZARDO SILVEIRA, Ernesto Manuel. Blocking of the iliac fascia compared to metamizol for preoperative analgesia in patients with hip fracture. MEDISAN [online]. 2014, vol.18, n.8, pp. 1127-1133. ISSN 1029-3019.

A study of therapeutic intervention in 134 aged adults with hip fracture, operated in "Dr. Ambrosio Grillo Portuondo" University Hospital in Santiago de Cuba was carried out from November, 2009 to same period of 2012, in order to evaluate the use of the blocking of the iliac fascia compared to metamizol for the relief of the acute pain in the preoperative period. Two study groups were formed, both with 67 members; blocking with 0.25 % bupivacaína was carried out in one of them, and intramuscular metamizol was administered in the other one. The visual analogical scale was used to evaluate the relief of pain during rest and when there was movement. Female sex (64.2 %) and the 81-90 age group patients (38.8 %) prevailed. After 60 minutes of using the blockade of the iliac fascia, an evident improvement was obtained in the affected patients, demonstrating its effectiveness regarding metamizol, either during rest as during movement

Palabras clave : elderly; hip fracture; acute pain; blocking of iliac fascia; metamizol; secondary health care.
