In this work, which is part of a trilogy in commemoration of the 120^th anniversary of the falling in combat of the Lieutenant General Antonio Maceo, important aspects of the life of Dr. Maximo Zertucha Ojeda related to his graduation as doctor, San Pedro's events, where Maceo lost the life, and the national and international impact of these events are pointed out in a historiographical and documental way. The author offers his arguments about the doctor's desertion
