Abstract

MARTINEZ LLOPIZ, Yusmani Ilario  and  GARCIA CANETE, Isolda María. Morbidity and mortality in patients with invasive mechanical ventilation in the Intensive Care Unit of "Celia Sánchez Manduley" Hospital. MEDISAN [online]. 2017, vol.21, n.6, pp.664-671. ISSN 1029-3019.

A descriptive and retrospective study of 43 patients with 18 years and over who were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of "Celia Sánchez Manduley" Hospital in Manzanillo, Granma, was carried out from January to December, 2014 since they needed invasive mechanical ventilation for more than 12 hours, to determine morbidity and mortality in those affected patients. The 60 years and over age group (44.1%), in which there were the 59.2% of dead patients, as well as the male sex (53.6%) prevailed. The cerebrovascular diseases represented 20.9% of the admissions and 53.4% of those affected received artificial ventilation during 3-21 days. The mortality in those exposed to this procedure during 12-72 hours, 3-21 days was 48.1%, as long as, the general mortality was 64.7% and the one observed, higher than the predicted mortality in the APACHE scale II, reason why it didn't constitute a prognosis tool
