Resumen

RODRIGUEZ GUERRERO, Katiuska et al. Oral health in patients with Down syndrome according to the attitude of their legal tutors. MEDISAN [online]. 2017, vol.21, n.7, pp.842-849. ISSN 1029-3019.

A descriptive and cross-sectional study of the 21 families that have members with Down syndrome, belonging to the health area of "Julián Grimau García" Polyclinic in Santiago de Cuba, was carried out from January, 2015 to the same month in 2016, to evaluate the attitude of the legal tutors of these patients, according to variables of interest for the investigation. In the series there was a prevalence of non receptive families, whose children presented higher percentage of oral disease (92.3), as well as those affected whose tutors had a non healthy attitude when facing the oral health (88.8%). Although the tutors had an appropriate level of knowledge, more than half possessed a non healthy attitude. It is recommended to elaborate an educational project directed to these people, and make it extensive to other health areas of the territory, which will facilitate the early training of habits related to dental brushing and care of oral hygiene
