Abstract

The scientific-technological progress generates new demands of professional training of the nursing staff, through the different ways of posgraduate education, not only for the professional exercise, but also for the social, familiar, civilian and daily life, which demands the harmonic linking of the preparation and the self-improvement in the work. Keeping in mind the above-mentioned, a literature review was carried out with the objective of revealing the historical evolution of the self-improvement of the nursing professional who work in the neonate intensive care units, as a referent to identify the specific professional competences of this staff in these institutions.
