Resumen

FUNDICHELY VAZQUEZ, Evelyn Yolanda et al. Statistical implicative analysis for the identification of risk factors of the cervical intraepithelial neoplasm. MEDISAN [online]. 2024, vol.28, n.6  Epub 07-Dic-2024. ISSN 1029-3019.

Introduction:

The implicative statistical analysis is a tool that allows identifying exceptions in the cause-effect relationships.

Objective:

To evaluate the utility of the implicative statistical analysis in the identification of risk factors associated with intraepithelial cervical neoplasm.

Method:

A cases and controls study was carried out from January to December, 2019. The cases included 107 patients over 18 years diagnosed with cervical intraepithelial neoplasm, belonging to the Ramón López Peña health area that were evaluated in the cervical pathology service of Mariana Grajales Maternal Hospital in Santiago de Cuba. The controls (239), consisted on women of the same age group, assisted in consulting rooms or admitted to this hospital, without the mentioned diagnosis. The dependent variable was the presence or absence of intraepithelial cervical neoplasm. The independent variables included: sexual relations before they were 16, nicotine addiction, alcoholism, multiparity, lingering use of oral contraceptives, abortions, multiple sexual partners, infection by human papilloma virus and other sexually transmitted infections. Statistical techniques of logistical regression and implicative statistical analysis were used.

Results:

Both techniques identified as risk factors the infection by human papilloma virus, other sexually transmitted infections and the presence of multiple sexual partners. Also, the implicative analysis highlighted the existence of multiple abortions as a risk factor.

Conclusions:

The implicative statistical analysis is useful to supplement the logistical regression in the identification of risk factors and conditions a better understanding of causation.
