Introduction: esophageal atresia is a typical and classical congenital malformation in Pediatric Surgery and the surgical solution to the problem is known as the "epitome of modern surgery." Objective: to expose the behavior of this condition in the period of ten years in the Department of Neonatology at Pediatric Hospital of Holguin. Method: a case series study in newborns operated by esophageal atresia, at Octavio de la Concepción de la Pedraja Pediatric Hospital of Holguin from January 1st, 2000 to December 31st was carried out Results: the incidence of this malformation (20.7 %) was obtained considering the cases operated at General Surgery and the survival rate in the period (83.3 %) and 55.6 % and 38.5 % of mortality in the group of weight between 1 500 and 1999 g and preterm, respectively. In the two patients with trisomy 100 % mortality was reported Conclusions: the outcome according to survival was satisfactory. The low birth weight and prematurity unfavorably influenced the survival of the studied children.
