Resumen

FONSECA, Gabriel M; CANTIN, Mario  y  PICOLA, Valentina. Proposal for Determining the Forensic Significance of Skeletal Remains through the Chemical Analysis of Dental Amalgam. ccm [online]. 2016, vol.20, n.2, pp.322-344. ISSN 1560-4381.

The recovery of a corpse needs to significant efforts for the identification if there is no antemortem data and the remains have been found with a long postmortem delay.  Findings in mass graves, typical pattern of wars, genocides or human rights violations, suppose an even major problem: the skeletal material cannot be consistent with the investigated time-line. A meticulous and reconstructive analysis will provide valuable information of biological variability to the investigation. In forensic dentistry, the dental fillings can demonstrate social, cultural, chronological and geographical features. Since the primary task of the investigation is to determine the forensic significance of those remains, an exhaustive and critical review was presented and the proposal of the chemical analysis of the alloy of the dental amalgam as a useful tool to differentiate these remains of other archaeological or historical decontextualized context cases was proposed.

Palabras clave : forensic Dentistry; identification; dental amalgam.
