Abstract

Introduction: performance evaluation of university teachers has as its essential purpose to promote and encourage professional development and is a valuable tool for managing the quality of university education. Objective: this study was aimed at analyzing the knowledge of Surgery teachers on teacher assessment process and its results in 2011 - 2012 school year. Methods: a questionnaire was developed to determine the information that teachers of Surgery, which was applied by the author in the 24 selected teachers and records of pedagogical scientific staff and their evaluations. Results: the university extension and methodological work were the less identified areas. The methodological work resulted the one of more difficulty. Among the less known aspects were found: recommendations, the work plan and guidelines for monitoring the process. Activities on methodological work were the least revealed in the evaluations. All evaluations were excellent and well. Conclusion: the author concluded that there are gaps in the knowledge of the teacher assessment, including lack of knowledge on recommendations, with greater difficulty in the methodological work and university extension and a greater prevalence of higher educational categories and similar behavior in evaluations.
