Abstract

VEGA DE LA CRUZ, Leudis Orlando  and  NIEVES JULBE, Any Flor. Management of risk in the process of sterilization in a hospitable entity. ccm [online]. 2019, vol.23, n.1, pp.245-264. ISSN 1560-4381.

Introduction:

risk management, as a main component of internal control, is a tool that helps to incorporate the volatility of random variables and their effects, in the decision-making process in hospital entities that, being budgeted organizations, must have an efficient control of their means and resources because of the cost they represent for the country.

Objective:

to manage the risks in the process of sterilization of the hospital entity to contribute to the improvement of the reasonable security of the objectives of the process.

Methods:

a procedure was designed for the management of risks by processes, areas and activities. In it, tools and techniques are exposed and explained that can be used in each step to be carried out in their management, supported by the Petri networks as formalization of risk identification. The research was carried out in the first trimester of 2016 in the Sterilization process belonging to Nursing at the University General Hospital Vladimir Ilich Lenin in the municipality of Holguín, Cuba.

Results:

the risks were identified through the Petri nets, the level of risks was determined for their subsequent control. As risks of greater severity are: deficiencies in the internal control system, little control of resources, insufficient economic control of the activities of the plant and warehouses and incorrect application of quality controls, in addition the plan was drawn up prevention of the process under study with the risks of greater severity for its subsequent control, evidencing an increase in the performance of this sterilization area.

Conclusions:

the risks were managed based on their identification by processes and the application of techniques and tools to facilitate the analysis, evaluation and control of them, allowing to identify the control objectives and to conform the risk prevention plan.

It contributed to the improvement of the performance of the process by bringing favorable results as a function of time.
