Abstract

BORROTO GUTIERREZ, Susana; ARMAS PEREZ, Luisa  and  GONZALEZ OCHOA, Edilberto. Revisión crítica de trabajos inéditos sobre tuberculosis, Cuba, 1984-1994. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 1997, vol.35, n.2, pp.74-84. ISSN 0253-1751.

In order to assess the epidemiologic information and the evaluation of a program for the control of tuberculosis in studies poorly or never disseminated that could contribute to its understanding, some of such studies were revised with the objective of evaluating the type of study and the main results. From the 12 thesis available on Epidemiology, Pneumotisiology, Health Administration and Tropical Medicine performed between 1984 and 1994 the following aspects were taken: title, date, place where it was performed, objectives, methods and main results. Such thesis were assessed according to valoration, analysis, interpretation, and extrapolation. Certain findings regarding clinical research, evaluation of programs and services in health areas, hospitals and other indicators of the program were described. All of them were descriptive. The following errors were detected: bias of selection, and assessment, exageration of conclusions, a poor use of statistical analysis and an inadequate extrapolation. There is some useful information which has not been published yet. It is necessary to improve the teaching of methodology of research and Biostatistics in pre and postgraduate levels.
