Abstract

GUEVARA, Carmen R; LARRINAGA, Eduardo F.; CALZADO, Yovana  and  VERDECIA, Pedro. Exposición ocupacional en röentgendiagnóstico médico en Cuba, 1991-1994. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 1997, vol.35, n.2, pp.85-93. ISSN 0253-1751.

Results from the distribution of doses in workers dealing with medical radiologic diagnosis in Cuba during 1991 and 1994 are reported. The analysis was made according to the recommendations from the United Nations Scientific Committe for Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR). A remarkable reduction in the number of workers exposed to measurable levels was observed from 1991. A great disproportion of these with respect to the number of workers assessed was established and the causes are discussed. Workers exposed to measurable levels with doses greater than 3/10 of the permissible limit of doses in force have the weight of the contribution to the colective dose received by workers studied during the period above mentioned, with approximately 22 %. An analysis of the repercussion on the results of the new permissible limit of doses for occupational exposure is made. It is recommended to improve the dosimetric system and the radiation protection system as well in order to increase the quality for the control of occupational exposure in medical radiologic diagnosis.
