Abstract
TORRES ROJAS, Virgilia T.; ESNARD BOLANOS, Sara C.; GUILLERMO SANCHEZ, Silvia M. and DIAZ ROSAS, Olvido. Estudio microbiológico del agua para hemodiálisis. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 1999, vol.37, n.1, pp.21-24. ISSN 0253-1751.
Monitoring was used to study the bacteriological contamination of water in a hemodialysis unit for the risk it represents for patients' health. The presence of heterotrophic bacteria was investigated according to the guidelines of the American Association for the Progress of Medical Instruments, as well as the existance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa by means of standardized methods. The densities of bacteria obtained are reported with values that do not exceed the norms established for dialysis water and for dialysis fluids. The pyocyanogenic characteristics of the isolated strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa are also mentioned. The pyocyanotypes 10 and 6 were the most commonly observed.
