In the evaluations of the environmental impact (EEI) of the development projects, those aspects connected with man's health are not always given the priority they deserve. That's why, we try to state the main factors that should be taken into account by the officials in charge of making these evaluations in the health sector, which would guarantee a more adequate and uniform assessment of this problem. Among the key factors that should be considered are those associated with the health quality of the environment, the health indicators, and the community participation. The legal body that allows to carry out an evaluation of the environmental impact and health (EEIH) is described. A proper assessment of the risks is indispensable to make an EEIH, which may be only attained by the work of the multidisciplinary groups and in an intersectorial way.
