Abstract

RODRIGUEZ SALVA, Armando; ECHAVARRIA AGUILERA, Ángel A.; MURLA ALONSO, Pedro  and  VAZQUEZ GONZALEZ, Carlos. Factores de riesgo del cáncer de cérvix en el municipio Cerro. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 1999, vol.37, n.1, pp.40-46. ISSN 0253-1751.

A case-control study was conducted aimed at identifying the groups at high risk of cervix carcinomas as a basis to attain an adequate guidance in its control. 67 patients diagnosed with located and invasive cancer by the National Program of Early Diagnosis of Cervical Cancer from 1995 to 1996 were selected as cases. 134 sound women with similar distribution by age (5 years) and zone of residence that had undergone the Papanicolau's test with negative results were considered as controls. The statistical significance and the relative risk were estimated by the ratio of crossed products. According to the results the risk factors were the following: low educational level, the beginning of sexual relations at early ages, early pregnancy, parity, the frequent change of partner, the use of oral contraceptives, the anal sexual relations, sex during the monthly period, and the smoking habit. The use of condom and the periodical Pap smear recommended by the Program were established as protective factors.
