A descriptive study of those people aged 1 - 19 that died as a result of accidents in Cuba from 1990 to 1996 was carried out to identify the bahavior of mortality from accidents. The percentage of deaths caused by accidents was estimated from the total od deaths ocurred in that period among those age groups. The annual rates of accidental death, their behavior in time, and the annual average rates in the period by type of accident were also determined. The risk of dying due to accidents was higher in adolescents aged 15-19, whereas the most risky accident was the traffic accident in all age groups.
