Abstract

BORROTO GUTIERREZ, Susana et al. La tuberculosis en Ciudad de La Habana. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 2000, vol.38, n.1, pp.5-16. ISSN 0253-1751.

The distribution and trends of the rates of incidence of tuberculosis by age groups in the fifteen municipalities of the City of Habana from1986 to 1995 were described. These rates of incidence were calculated on the basis of population estimations made by the National Statistics Departament of the Ministry of Publich Health and of population density data obtained from the Demographic Development Institute. In a 10-year period, there was a general upward trend in tuberculosis except for La Lisa municipality which kept fairly stable figures with a discrete downward trend. However, La Habana Vieja, the second most populated municipality of the capital, was the only one that showed rates of incidence over 10. for the whole period. Habana del Este municipality kept the lowest rates of incidence, with figures under 8 per 100 000 pop. The rest of the municipalities had intermediate rates with some fluctuations. The rates of incidence by age groups were similar for all the municipality, being much higher in the 65 years and over group whereas no tuberculosis case was practically recorded in 0-4 years age group.
