Taking into account the importance of intestinal parasitoses in our country, a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out to evaluatethe quality of implementation of the National Program of Intestinal Parasitism in the primary health care of Las Tunas municipality, from January to April, 1997. The knowledge of general integral physicians and of vice-directors of hygiene and epidemiology, the characteristics of the laboratories of Parasitology and the competence of the technical staff were evaluated. Validated surveys, external control procedures of the quality and deep individual interviews were conducted. It was detected lack of knowledge of the specialists in General Integral Medicine in the management of patients with parasites, deficiencies in the implementation of the technical steps in the laboratories, difficulties in the identification of parasites species by the technical staff and lack of knowledge of the program on the part of the vice-directors, whixh interferres with the correct inplementation of the program. It is recommended to conduct a strategy of intervention to modify the situation in short term.
