Considerations are made on a descriptive study conducted at "10 de Octubre" municipality, in Havana City, with a group of indicators obtained in this territory in 1998 and 1999 that were compared with those attained in 1985 and 1990. It was observed that the structure of the population of this municipality continues getting older and that the indicators of general and specific mortality are part of a health picture continuously rising. It was found an increase of the cerebrovascular diseases and the need to elevate the diagnosis and control of arterial hypertension, which had a low prevalence and is its main risk factor. The increase of the number of family physcians and the constant elevation of their professional qualification, which explain the sucess attained with the application of the primary health care model 15 years after its implementation in the "10 de Octubre" municipality, were stressed.
