RODRIGUEZ GONZALEZ, . Islay et al. Caracterización serológica de cepas aisladas de pacientes con leptospirosis humana en Cuba. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 2002, vol.40, n.1, pp.11-15. ISSN 0253-1751.
204 strains of leptospires were obtained from the hemocultures of patients with human leptospirosis from different regions of the country. On using the species identification tests, it was found that all of them belonged to the Leptospira interrogans pathogenic complex and on characterizing them up to serogroup by using 13 hyperimmune sera, it was detected that Ballum, Pomona and Canicola had the highest circulation. For the first time, the Pyrogenes, Autumnalis and Betaviae serogroups, which had not been previously isolated in patients with human leptospirosis in Cuba, were found. According to these results, rats, pigs and dogs are the main reservoirs of this entity and they contribute to the improvement of the Cuban vaccine against human leptospirosis.
