The results obtained in the activites of quality assurance carried out at the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory of the National Institute of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology after the implementation of the Quality System according to the "NC-ISO/IEC standards: Guide 25. General requisites for the competence of the calibration and test laboratory" are presented. The laboratory was accredited in 1999 by the National Accrediting Body as a result of the hard work done to fulfill the requirements established for Good Laboratory Practices, the Standards of the Family ISO 9 000 and, specially, the NC-ISO/IEC: Guide 25. The quality system documents that were taken into consideration to evaluate quality assurance were the following: Manual of Laboratory Quality, Manual of Standardized Operation Procedures, Manual of Assay Procedures and laboratory registries.
