Abstract

SUAREZ PITA, Maritza. Tendencia actual del estreptococo como indicador de contaminación fecal. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 2002, vol.40, n.1, pp.38-43. ISSN 0253-1751.

The health quality of the environmental resources is controlled by the enumeration of bacteria or groups of bacteria indicators of faecal contamination. The Streptoccocus faecalis group is one of them. As a result of the changes in the taxonomy of the genus Streptococcus and the appearance of new species within the genus Enterococcus, this pollution indicator has been approached in a different way and the term "intestinal Enterecoccus and Streptococcus" has been proposed at present to refer to the bacteria of faecal origin of these 2 genuses used as indicators.

Keywords : ENTEROCOCCUS FAECALIS [classification]; POLLUTION INDICATORS; QUALITY CONTROL; CLASSIFICATION.
