Abstract
SEUC, Armando H and DOMINGUEZ, Emma. Introducción al cálculo de esperanza de vida ajustada por discapacidad. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 2002, vol.40, n.2, pp.95-102. ISSN 0253-1751.
The justification and the procedure used to calculate disability- adjusted life expectancy (DALE), an indicator summarizing the populations health in a specially intuitive way, are presented in this paper. Comments are made on the interdependence existing between this indicator and the disability-adjusted years of life (DAYL), which are increasingly used at the national and international level to evaluate the burden of diseases and their sequelae, as well as the main risk factors propitiating them. The calculation procedure is illustrated by giving an example . The possible interpretations and analyses that can be made with this indicator are approached. Finally, the main informative requirements necessary for an adequate and periodical calculation of these indicators are discussed.
