GUZMAN PINEIRO, Raisa; BARCELO PEREZ, Carlos  and  OTERO, Ciro. Metodología para evaluar indicadores de sostenibilidad para la vivienda saludable en El Salvador. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 2003, vol.41, n.1. ISSN 0253-1751.

The Pan American Health Organizations (PHO) built "Villa Centenario" in El Salvador due to the destruction of 194 147 houses by 2 earthquakes, and requested the creation of a methodology to measure through indicators the sustainability of the project. The current methodology evaluates health education concerning the health risks in the internal and external environment of the house, the identification of economic resources for its maintenance, the potentiality of the community to mobilize resources and the conditions of the house and its sorrounding, to assess the state of conservation and the impact of the project on health. This methodology of low cost and easy application will be used by the local health team and will have an integrating tool of environmental health, economic and health education indicators aimed at improving the quality of life, reducing expenses and establish priorities for action..
