Abstract
VALDIVIA ONEGA, Nelly Cristina. Epidemiología y atención primaria de salud. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 2003, vol.41, n.2-3. ISSN 0253-1751.
The development of the strategy of primary health care and epidemiolgy is analyzed with the definition of the common acting fields. The importance of the transference of technology in the development and functioning of primary health care, and the need, for its own development, of a solid process of integration with epidemiology is underlined. A comparison between the scientific method, the clinical method and their application is made. A parallelism is carried out among them, starting from the key processes of PHC, which are an opportunity per se to improve the quality of care and and of the training of the health basic teams (HBT) to guarantee services of excellence. The present review is aimed at finding common points in the development of the selected disciplines and at defining common action fields, as well as at making emphasis on the importance of dealing with the epidemiological method and on what the epidemiology may contribute to the development of the strategy of primary health care in Cuba.
