In order to identify the referred prevalence of non-communicable diseases in older adults in Havana City, a descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in a sample of 2 025 subjects aged 60 or over from the population of this age group. These individuals who lived in this territory from January to March, 2000, were surveyed. Punctual and interval estimates were carried out with a reliability of 95 %. The referred disease with the highest prevalence was arterial hypertension (42.4 %), followed by heart diseases (23,5) and diabetes mellitus (14,7). All these diseases prevailed among females. The 60-69 age group was the most affected with arterial hypertension, whereas the 80 and over age group was mainly affected with cerebrovascular disease.
