Abstract
WENG ALEMAN, Zulia et al. Bacterial conservation by simple method at room temperature: a viable alternative. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 2005, vol.43, n.2. ISSN 0253-1751.
In order to verify the viability and maintenance of the physiological features of bacterial strains originally preserved in semisolid conservation medium since the end of 1980, 60 bacterial strains of the families Bacillaceae, Enterobacteriaceae, Enterococcaceae and Pseudomonaceae, maintained as reference patterns in the collection of microbial cultures of the National Institute of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology, were studied. 80.50 % of the strains were viable during 12 years with 45.3 % of their levels of viability in the neighborhood of 107 Ufc/mL and 87.0 % of puritiy, as well as 95.2 % of preservation of the phenotypical characteristics. The medium allowed the conservation of the strains with good results, which suggest its use as a simple method in the laboratories with lilmited resources.
