OBJECTIVE: to make a critical analysis of a focus control carried out in a patient at pediatric age with pulmonary tuberculosis that was selected at random in a municipality of Havana City province, in 2005. DEVELOPMENT: the generated and available documentation was reviewed, and different authorities of the health area linked to the Tuberculosis Control and Prevention Program, which is a technical and methodological tool for the control and prevention of this disease in the country, were interviewed. CONCLUSIONS: some deficiencies related to the accomplishment of the program were found in the diagnosis of the cases in the health area, in the localization and investigation of all the contacts, and in the surveillance of the fulfilment of the treatment by the health team.
