Abstract

CUMBA ABREU, Caridad et al. Ergonomic recommendations for computer classrooms and laboratories in educational institutions. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 2013, vol.51, n.3, pp.338-347. ISSN 1561-3003.

The use of computers as teaching aids has enhanced the quality of education. There are certain elements related to the work with computers which should be treated both rationally and scientifically, for they can have an influence on the health status of people. These effects are particularly relevant to children and adolescents, for their bodies are going through a stage of growth and development. The School Health Department at the National Institute of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology (INHEM), as part of the Branch Project "Control and surveillance strategy for health conditions in the use of educational audiovisual aids", has developed a number of ergonomic recommendations for computer classrooms and laboratories at elementary, secondary and technical-professional educational institutions. Compliance with these ergonomic recommendations will make sure that mass use of computers in the country's educational institutions will become a factor stimulating both development and health, not a risk factor for students.

Keywords : computers as teaching aids; ergonomic recommendations; children and adolescents.
