Abstract
JUNCO DIAZ, Raquel de los Ángeles and VAN DER WERFF, Suzanne Desirée. Helminths, nutrition and allergy: epidemiological associations in Cuban schoolchildren. Rev Cubana Hig Epidemiol [online]. 2013, vol.51, n.3, pp.365-370. ISSN 1561-3003.
In Cuba the prevalence of asthma is very high, unlike the general trend in developing countries. On the other hand, like in most developing countries, several helminth infections are endemic. Obesity is a health problem, whereas malnutrition is notable low. This unique combination of characteristics from both developing and developed countries makes Cuba an interesting place for the epidemiological examination of the parameters under study, with the purpose of identifying associations between helminth infections, nutritional status, and the growing occurrence of asthma and other allergic diseases.
Keywords : intestinal helminthiasis; nutrition; allergic diseases; Cuban schoolchildren; epidemiological associations.
