Resumen

CASTILLO PEREZ, Verónica et al. Propofol as an anesthetic agent in breast node-surgery. Rev Ciencias Médicas [online]. 2004, vol.8, n.1, pp. 73-82. ISSN 1561-3194.

A prospective study of 100 patients operated on by elective surgery from breast node was performed at Leon Cuervo Rubio Hospital between October 2002 and September 2003, they were divided into two groups of 50 patients each and selected at random. Control I (Control Group) was given endovenous general anesthesia with Ketalar (2-4 mg/kg) and Diazepam (10 mgiv). Group II (Study Group) was given Fentanyl (50-100 mcg) and Propofol (1, 5-2, 5 mg/kg). heart rate and blood pressure were taken 10 minutes before the anesthesic procedure and after 5 minute. The most frequent medical histories found in Group I were: diabetes mellitus (14%), high blood pressure and bronchial asthma (10 % each), smoking (24 %). In Group II, 16 hypertensive patients (32 %), 7 asthmatic patients (14 %) and 3 suffering from diabetes (6 %), smoking (14 %); 5 minutes after the initiation of induction in Group I, the mean values of heart rate and systolic blood pressure increased (4.7 %), the diastolic blood pressure (9.9 %) being similar within 20 minutes. In Group II it was proved a transient decrease of mean values in rate heart, systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure (14.8, 9.6 and 10.4 % respectively) seeing a gradual increase to normal within 20 minutes. The anesthesia recovery mean time was 2.5 hours in Group I and 3.3 in Group II. The side effects were found more frequently in Group I.
