Background: To distinguish between those needing urgent medical care and those who do not, is turning into a serious problem for the medical personnel working in the emergency services; specifically in pediatric ages. Objective: To present and promote a methodology of physical evaluation which allows identifying anatomical and functional abnormalities in children, estimating the severity and determining how urgent medical intervention is needed in the emergency departments of primary health care. Development: Medical personnel working in the emergency departments require theoretical bases in order to enhance the process of decision-making regarding urgent affections in childhood, diminishing the costs of the assistance and overcrowding the in emergency services of the secondary health care. Conclusion: It is appropriate to encourage a continuing training of the medical personnel in order to develop specific aptitudes to carry out a proper assessment of the pediatric emergencies to achieve the excellence in medical services.
