Abstract

The universities constitute the cornerstone of scientific-technological subsystem in every country, which have the duty of encouraging the creativity, as well as scientific training of professionals. The results of a research carried out with the objective of reflecting on the role of scientific research in medical universities and the contribution to concrete solutions to health problems having a social impact are shown. A documentary review of the syllabus for medical studies was conducted considering the opinion of experts. It constitutes a need to increase the quality of training for medical science graduates to research, specially, medical graduates with the responsibility of assuming the work in Primary Health Care, where important research activities are organized, direct to increase the quality of actions regarding health prevention/promotion and medical care. The university must contribute to an intelligent society of knowledge through the achievement of high levels in quality and life security to the population, to achieve it, it is essential to be convinced of the importance of generating a change in belief and habits of research works, thus, to develop a culture of research work in educational institutions and specially in higher medical education.
