Abstract

An observational, descriptive and longitudinal study aimed at determining the effectiveness of herbal medicine as one of the treatments in Natural and Traditional Medicine for patients that suffered from Bronchial Asthma was conducted at "Amapola" Doctor's Office in Petare, Sucre District during 2009. Venezuela. The sample was chosen by means of a non-probabilistic per convenience sampling; selecting 48 asthmatic patients with inclusion criteria. The variables related to the objectives of the study were: age, sex, symptoms and signs the patients presented at the moment of treatment, period or stage of the disease, treatment effectiveness, as the natural history along with the control of the disease after the beginning of herbal treatment. Results were showed in tables; applying a statistical percentage analysis as well. Female sex, patients from 10 to 14 years old followed by 5-9 years old patients prevailed. The most common symptoms were shortness of breath and cough; the patients attending to the office in asthmatic status achieved good results with the application of the different treatment alternatives. The combination of garlic, oregano and camomile from 6-10 days improved the symptoms during the course of three (3) months where the majority of patients presented no asthmatic status.
