Abstract

Pregnancy in adolescence and sexual education as prevention method constitute a current problem and a consequential theme to be immediately solved. A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in doctor's offices No-1 and No-2 at "Luis Augusto Turcios Lima" University Polyclinic in Pinar del Rio municipality which aim was to prepare an educational-intervention strategy to prevent pregnancy in adolescence. A survey prepared by the author of the article was applied to male and female adolescents having a previous consent of their parents. The target group included 134 adolescents and the sample involved 122 who decided to participate in the study. Data were processed and analyzed using frequency measures (percentage). Female sex, and ages from 14 to 16 prevailed, they expressed having former information about sexual education to prevent pregnancy in adolescence; however their reflections about pregnancy, abortion and its risks along with the use of contraceptive methods were not satisfactory where male sex prevailed, parents and professors represented the main sources of information about the topic. Sexual education regarding the prevention of pregnancy in male and female adolescents showed difficulties, establishing a proposal of an educational-intervention strategy to prevent pregnancy in this period of life.
