An applied-epidemiological, descriptive, analytical, longitudinal, retrospective and prospective research in preterm newborn infants having an inferior weight of 2500g was conducted taking into account the ponderous-height of these infants in the first period of life at "Turcios Lima" University Outpatient Clinic in Pinar del Rio municipality during 2002-2007. The target group and the sample consisted of 90 infants weighting less than 2500g at birth, gestation age before 37 weeks and a control group that was chosen by each one of the previous group of those born at term having the same weight at birth or superior than 2500g, taken in a consecutive order of the preterm infants. Empirical and theoretical methods of scientific investigation were used; finding a high frequency of preterm deliveries in adolescents and an adequate nutritional recovery of infants in the first period of life (a year), even though some difficulties in the feeding and management of these infants were observed.
