GARCIA DIAZ, Celeste; SOMONTE DAVILA, Hermes; DOMINGUEZ GUERRA, Sorangel  and  RODRIGUEZ OSORIA, María Isabel. Therapeutic-surgical correction of total mandibular prognathism. A case report. Rev Ciencias Médicas [online]. 2012, vol.16, n.2, pp.262-270. ISSN 1561-3194.

A 21 year-old, Caucasian, female patient having health records attended to maxillofacial service at "Leon Cuervo Rubio" General Hospital presenting facial deformation with familial history of mandibular prognathism in paternal relatives (cousins), showing excessive mandibular growing (total mandibular prognathism) associated with a superior maxillary dysplasia, posterior and anterior cross-bite, cross of 5mm, negative projection of -8,5mm with an elevated disharmony of the osseous parts affecting her facial esthetic provoking a concave profile with a large and disproportionate face. The main objective of the treatment was to improve the relations and proportions of the osseous basses, to restore the functional dental occlusion and her esthetic, at the same time to reach a straight and harmonic profile. Therapeutic-surgical approach was the treatment followed; which included clinical-cephalometric diagnosis with a subsequent treatment of fixed orthodontic appliance (Rectum Arch) to the correction of the occlusion anomalies, finally a surgical correction of the osseous parts with a vertical osteotomy of the mandibular branch was performed.
