Introduction: from remote times it is believed that each pregnancy makes women lose a tooth. Although this statement is not scientifically supported, it is proved that the existence of bio-psychosocial factors during pregnancy, not early considered, can lead to oral cavity diseases or worsen those in existence. Objective: to identify the risk factors and oral diseases of pregnant women in the third trimester at “Fermin Valdes Dominguez” university outpatient clinic, Viñales municipality from March to June 2012. Material and method: a retrospective-analytical study (inferential) was carried out comprising all pregnant women on the third trimester at “Fermin Valdes Dominguez” university outpatient clinic. Results: gingivitis was the most frequent finding in 88, 9% and the ingestion of cariogenic diet (61.1%) as the most unfavorable risk factor. Conclusions: dentobacterial plaque was an important risk factor related to the onset of caries and more than the half of pregnant women presented low levels of knowledge regarding oral health education, close related to oral cavity diseases.
