Introduction: dentofacial anomalies include alterations in growth, development and physiologism anatomical components that make up the stomatognathic system. Objective: to characterize tooth and jaw abnormalities in children of 6-12 years of age who presented at Community Center Comprehensive Care "Primero de mayo " in Guacara Township in 2012. Material and methods: a descriptive, cross-sectional, observational study in 140 children between 6 and 12 years old. Variables were studied: age, sex, presence and type of anomaly dentomaxilofacial, etiological factors and type of deforming habits. Summary measures were used as absolute frequencies and percentages. Results: 89.3% of the children studied had anomalies dentomaxilofaciales, the teeth being the most frequent (73.6%). The most affected sex was female and the age group of 9-12 years. Dentofacial anomalies were more frequent incompetent lip closure, the transverse maxillary micrognathia, and the shoulder rotation increased. Deforming habits were detected in 71.4% of the children studied predominantly tongue thrust and combined habits. Conclusions: most patients studied had anomalies dentomaxilofaciales, dominated by the teeth and the most common etiologic factors were deforming oral habits of this stems the importance of prevention and elimination from early developmental ages.
