Introduction: mentoring is a recognized practice since ancient times has been very important over time and as a function of a university professor can be evidenced from the emergence of the University. Objective: to characterize the tutor preparation training process of the general practitioner at "Hermanos Cruz" University Clinic in Pinar del Rio in the year 2012-2013. Material and methods: a research study in the field of undergraduate education was conducted, theoretical and empirical methods were used in this research and a survey and interview experts were designed. The survey was addressed to tutors medical students resulting in a total of 34, aspects such as professional and pedagogical years experience as specialists, academic degree, years of work tutelary academic years and the number of students they serve assistance to educational preparation activities were included. Results: factors responsible for the lack of teaching category, prevalence of instructors, poor educational scientific and professional preparation of tutors and irregular attendance methodological activities were identified. Conclusions: most of the tutors have extensive experience as a First Degree Specialists on General Medicine prevail instructors, a strong representation of them do not have teaching category. It characterizes tutor preparation training process of the general practitioner at "Hermanos Cruz" University Clinic in Pinar del Rio during 2012-2013.
