Resumen

PADRON GONZALEZ, Odalis et al. Educative intervention for increasing fertile-aged women's knowledge on HIV/AIDS. Rev Ciencias Médicas [online]. 2013, vol.17, n.6, pp.51-61. ISSN 1561-3194.

Introduction: HIV/AIDS is increasingly affecting women due to their biological and social vulnerability; prevention is the only existing resource against that scourge. Objective: to increase women's knowledge on aspects of HIV/AIDS. Material and methods: a quasi experimental intervention study without a comparison group was carried out of fertile-aged women from the community doctor's office # 192, which belongs to Luis Augusto Turcios Lima University (outpatient) Clinic, from January to September 2010. This research was carried out in three stages: the first aimed at obtaining, by anonymous survey, a diagnosis of women's knowledge on the topic; the second corresponded to developing educative actions in the community; and the third, to assessing the educative intervention applied. Results: Fertile-aged women's knowledge was insufficient irrespective of their school level. Educative actions permitted to train health promoters for developing activities with other women and the community residents in general. Conclusions: The educative intervention applied proved effective in increasing fertile-aged women's knowledge on HIV/AIDS.

Palabras clave : HIV; Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.
