SANCHEZ PORTELA, Joel Ramón; VERGA TIRADO, Belkis  and  SANCHEZ CAMARA, Luanda. Behavior of sexually trasmitted diseases. Rev Ciencias Médicas [online]. 2013, vol.17, n.6, pp.62-73. ISSN 1561-3194.

Introduction: sexually trasmitted infections (STI) represent a serious problem worldwide, the young being particularly vulnerable. In San Cristobal, the overall increase of patients with sexually trasmitted diseases was of 7.2% according to the previous year. The community El Vaquerito, in Los Pinos Popular Council, was the most affected. Objective: to evaluate the behavior of sexually trasmitted infections in the community El Vaquerito, in connection with the age of patients, sex, promiscuity relationships and male sexual orientation. Material and method: a retrospective, descriptive, cross-sectional study was applied from September 2010 to September 2011. The data was obtained from personal clinical records, epidemiological surveys and cards of notifiable diseases, to which the percentage was calculated together with the chi-squared test. Results: diseases in male patients (66.1%) and age group 20-24 years old (35.6%) predominated. 52.04% of the patients referred to have had any sexual intercourse conceptualized as promiscous. Among the male patients, the predomination was among those who had a heterosexual behaviour (45%). 72.5% of the patients had unprotected sexual intercourse. Conclusions: The connection between the assessed factors and the onset of sexually trasmited diseases was significant.
