Abstract

Introduction: univerzalization means "extending the university and all its processes to society through its presence in the territories. Reaching higher levels of social justice and equity." Objective: to assess the satisfaction of the universalization process in the Dentistry major in Pinar del Río. Material and method: a descriptive cross-sectional research was carried out (period: Janaury-May 2010). The target group consisted of the whole number of Dentistry majors who started their studies in the academic course 2007-2008, in Pinar del Río, in the venues both central and municipal, and of the proffesors in charge of the educational-teaching process in the municipal venues. Central venue 29 students randomly chosen from the target group and 6 professors. Several aspects were analyzed, such as accesibility to information and informatization, stability and training of the teaching staff, updating and existence of printed and digital material, teaching category of the staff, and satisfaction of students and teachers. The main statistical methods were absolute and relative percentage frequencies, chi-squared test. Results: there existed certain stability and preparation in the teachinfg staff in the several areas, the minority of the students argues the nonexistence of adequate learning materials, the majority of the teacher from the municipal venues are not categorized or are instructors, while half of them in the central venua are assistant. Conclusion: the development of the universalization process is satisfactory in the Dentistry major in Pinar del Río Province.
