Abstract

Introduction: lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory disease of unknown etiology, with oral mucocutaneous manifestations have a characteristic clinical histology; and benign natural history, thought in some occasions it can have a malignant degeneration. Clinical case report: a 16 year-old female patient having a previous diagnosis of acute herpetic gingivostomatitis, but clinical and histopathologic studies confirmed the diagnosis of oral lichen planus. Conclusions: health professional should be able to differentiate, mainly clinically, the entities of the oral mucous, it is very important. In this case report a poor diagnosis obstructed the favorable progress of the patient.
