MONTES DE OCA, Sergio Luis  y  ALBERT VICTORERO, Ariagna. Guillain Barre syndrome. Rev Ciencias Médicas [online]. 2014, vol.18, n.2, pp.275-283. ISSN 1561-3194.

Introduction: Guillain Barre Syndrome is a demyelinating, acute, inflammatory polyneuropathy mediated by immune mechanisms, with much variable results and clinical development, and constitutes the most frequent cause of acute flaccid paralysis generalized in the world. Objective: to clinically and epidemiologically characterize Gullain Barre patients, and also the electromyographic variants, the application of diagnosis criteria, and further evolution. Material and method: a descriptive retrospective research was carried out from January 2009 to September 2013. The sample consisted of 12 patients admitted with diagnosis of Guillain Barré. Results: most of the cases presented in 2009, with a predominance of female patients of ages 50-59 years. The most frequent predisposing factors are the respiratory tracts infections, and the variant of acute demyelinating inflammatory polyneuropathy. Diagnosis criteria were applied on more than 90% of the cases. Most patients were admitted alive with sequels. Conclusions: the 50% of the patients were included within the age groups 50-59 years, the female sex predominating, as well as the antecedent of respiratory tracts infections, the variant of acute demyelinating inflammatory polyneuropathy was the most frequent, diagnosis criteria were applied in most of the patients, and there was only one death.
